The Sheffield Hospitals Charity is launching a new comedy night ‘Chuckles for Charity’ at Sheffield’s iconic venue The Leadmill in hopes to raise funds for dementia on 20 March.

Eight local professionals and public figures have been undertaking training in a masterclass by Anthony J. Brown who will also host the evening.

Anthony is a Metro Edinburgh Festival Award Winner and BBC New Comedy Award Runner Up.

Mr Brown said: “It’s great to be involved in the Chuckles for Charity event for Sheffield Hospitals Charity. It’s evidently a wonderful cause and all eight of the participants are eager to learn and put the time in required to create their own rib-tickling comedy sets from nothing. Roll on March 20th!”

The eight local comedians include local entrepreneurs and professionals, Phil Turner: owner of Meze publishing an award winning business, Nigel Short: Voot Telecoms , Mark Rawson: Seven Hills Creative, Ross Musgrove: Bravand, Sam Headford: See it be it, Laura Cartwright: A freelance marketing manager, Alex Dobson: Freeths and Joe Gleadall: Amby Recruitement.

Sheffield Hospitals Charity is a local organisation that supports Sheffield hospitals, community teams and health and social care services to help cover the costs that the NHS budget cannot.

Cristina Staniforth, Corporate Relationships Manager at Sheffield Hospitals Charity said: “Our Chuckles for Charity night is a way of bringing people together for a night of laughter and to raise money for a fantastic cause. Our line-up is full of funny, brave characters and we’re grateful to everyone for getting involved in the event.”

The Charity also have more events coming up including an ongoing skydiving scheme that is taking place over the year, as well as sponsorships for the Sheffield Half Marathon, the London Marathon and the Paris Marathon.

The Leadmill will host the event in the midst of its ongoing legal battles with their venue owners Electric Group.

A judge recently ruled in favour of the owners who have been in an eviction battle with The Leadmill Ltd since 2022, meaning the tenants will have to leave in the next three months.

The management of the venue will be taken over by the Electric Group.

Tickets for the event can be bought here.
