Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (SHaff) is back this weekend celebrating its 20th anniversary, from outdoor enthusiasts to those after some gripping stories there’s something there for everyone.
Showcasing films from across the globe, here’s everything you need about how to make the most out of this event.
Where is it taking place?
The Showroom Cinema, the largest independent cinema outside of London, located by Sheffield station.
Film making not for you?
Head to ‘the workstation’ for free talks, photo exhibitions, a second hand kit sale and plenty more.
The founder of the weekend-event Matt Heason started brainstorming SHaff 20 years ago after visiting Kendal Mountain Film Festival. He believed that something similar would resonate with Sheffield’s outdoor audience.
SHaff encourages its visitors to travel sustainably using public transport or human power.
Ben Dransfield, Head of Digital Communications for SHaff said: “We use the same four words; adventure, community, activation and sustainability.”
The purpose of the event is to inspire everyone to get outside and enjoy everything sport and nature has to offer.

When?
The festival will run from the 21-23 March, and with lots of free events there’s something for everyone.
What’s on?
Each year SHaff receives hundreds of film entries, with director Matt Heason happy to give feedback to any film makers that don’t make the final cut. With the Adventure films varying from two minute shorts to feature length films.
Mr Dransfield added: “We see thousands of Sheffield’s own come through the doors over the course of the festival. It’s great to see all varieties of the city’s ‘outdoorsy’ people in one place.”
SHaff is partnered with other organisations like Rab, Patagonia and Awesome Walls Sheffield.
Sustainability is at the heart of SHaff. Wherever possible they pledge to work with local partners and sponsors.
For anyone wanting to get involved Mr Dransfield said: “Just come along! Grab a ticket to one of over 25 screenings throughout the weekend, chat to people, book onto a workshop and just give it a go. Who knows you might meet your next exhibition partner.”
