The Chairman of Sheffield F.C left his role yesterday morning and stated that he could not share the ‘specifics’ of his decision.

The club posted a statement on Instagram to announce Richard Tims’ departure. The Directors of Sheffield F.C. said: ”We would like to take this opportunity to thank Richard for his dedication and invaluable contributions over the past 27 years.

”His efforts have been instrumental in shaping the club into what it is today, and without his commitment, Sheffield F.C. would not be in the position it holds, with 168 years of continuous history”.

The club has also announced the departure of board member Jim Harrison, and said: ”He deserves recognition for his unwavering support and generous financial contributions to Sheffield F.C. over many years, including a period during which he played a pivotal role in advancing our ladies’ team to what is now the Women’s Super League (WSL).”

Sheffield F.C manager Vill Powell discussed Tims’ departure in more detail shortly after the club statement was released.

The club statement also provided an update on the ongoing refurbishment of their Dronfield ground. The statement read: ”We are actively engaged in discussions with Sheffield City Council about the development plans for our future stadium.

”We remain committed to ensuring that the new facility will meet the club’s long term needs and further enhance our standing within the community.”

The club has submitted a planning application to Sheffield City Council for a new 5,000 capacity stadium at Meadowhead in Sheffield to be shared with Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Club.

Sheffield F.C. are widely recognised as the oldest football club in the world. They were formed in 1857, three years before their city rivals Hallam, who are believed to be the world’s second-oldest football club.

Sheffield FC currently sit at the bottom of the Northern Premier League East, facing the threat of relegation to the ninth tier of the English Football pyramid.
