An Albanian man has been given a nine month sentence following the discovery of a cannabis farm in Rotherham.

Xhuljano Xheka, 21, pleaded guilty in February after 130 cannabis plants were found in the property where he lived.

There were 67 plants found in the loft and 63 in various other rooms in the house on Brunswick Road, Rotherham. Xheka had multiple lights, fans and filters to help with the growth of cannabis.

Sheffield Crown Court heard he had a ‘debt’ to pay in Albania which is the reason he came to England. He was discovered hiding in the loft of the property and was arrested at the scene.

A police search found £455 in cash in the property and two mobile phones were also recovered.

Judge Rachael Harrison said: “[Xheka was] a gardener taking all of the risk and none of the profit.”

Xheka had no known previous convictions and the Judge said he will likely be deported back to Albania when his sentence is over.

The cash and drug equipment were confiscated and destroyed.
