Sheffield’s Hong Kong community came together on 29th March to support local art space through a ‘Mahjong Tournament and Fundraising Gala’, hosted by Re-Water CIC, a Hong Kong community organisation in the city.
The event was held in aid of Bloc Projects and aimed to raise funds for the independent contemporary art space, which has been a hub for emerging ‘grassroots’ artists in Sheffield.
Participants played rounds of mahjong, a traditional Hong Kong tile-based game, followed by creative workshops, a lucky draw, art and cake sale, and charity auction featuring artworks by local artists.
Clara Cheung of Re-Water CIC and Sunshine Wong the co-director of Bloc Projects, shared their thoughts on the event.
