Kinoteka Film Festival will be showing multiple screenings in Showroom’s cinema in Sheffield from the 5th of April to the 14th of April.

Kinoteka aims to highlight compelling contemporary and classic Polish cinema.  This year, the film festival will head across the UK with regional editions in 8 UK cities. Sheffield has been selected as one of the cities to showcase these films.

Blanka Konopka, 31, organiser of Kinoteka said: “ We’re hoping there will be real interest from people who’ve never experienced Polish culture and want to find out more beyond the festival.”

She added: “Those who have not always had a chance to interact with Polish culture can have a taste of Polish culture and sample something new.”

This year the festival honours one of Poland’s greatest filmmakers with screenings dedicated to director Wojciech Has. This will be the first time that a retrospective of Wojciech Has has been done in the UK.

The line up in Sheffield features the films Silent Trees, It is Not My Film, The Saragossa Manuscript and Under the Volcano.

Jakub Stolarczyk from Radio Polonia FM said:  “ I’m thrilled by the idea of these screenings adding a new flavour to each city.”

The festival’s main aim is to celebrate Polish cinema around the UK.

Jakub said: “Kinoteka isn’t just a film festival, it’s a cultural bridge. I’m hoping it injects fresh energy into Sheffield’s cultural life, sparking debates, igniting new conversations, and mixing communities in creative ways.”
