David Mayne, the artist behind the steel bear in Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens, has returned to the city for his first exhibition in nine years.

The showcase includes works to represent Mayne’s evolution as an artist, as well as paying tribute to the ‘steel city’ where he lived from 1983 to 2004.

Karen Sherwood, the founder and director of Cupola Gallery said: “His whole body of work represents his love of Yorkshire, really.

“It’s about our connection with nature, that mix of Sheffield’s heritage with the steel and the green spaces, is quite a nice thing.”

Composed largely of steel and wood, the exhibition focuses on the close-ties between the natural and the man-made, with statues of cyclists, runners and climbers as well as Yorkshire wildlife.

The exhibition will run from the 26th April until the 31st May, with kids and dogs welcome to visit.
