Residents and charities near Verdon Street, one of Sheffield’s most deprived areas, have growing concerns about how unsafe the park and green spaces are because of the prevalence of anti-social behaviour.

The area is a crime hotspot due to parts being off the road and obscure while it is also surrounded by litter and broken glass.

Kids are often left with nowhere to go, roaming on roads and parking spaces.

Despite the situation, local charities in the area provide a space for mothers to safely bring their children.

Julie D’souza Walsh, Furnival Project Manager on Verdon Street, said: “The park down the hill is very hidden away behind shrubs and trees and there is quite a lot of anti-social behaviour.”
