Among other reasons, it seems more financially viable to remain in Purpose Built Student Accommodation.
For returners, the process seems much easier than ‘house hunting’ too.
Especially within the short period of time where students are expected to find a house, it becomes more likely that people will be saddled with incompatible living styles.
However, returners’ accommodation is often amongst freshers rather than having their own building. There is often a stark difference between a fresher who may not have a demanding workload, rather than a Masters student in their final year.
This can result in issues such as a lack of noise control particularly around finals season or before big deadlines. Whereas the stakes are much higher for a returner, most freshers are more concerned with student life.
