A new food-hall and social space called Department has opened to the public for the first time.
Located in the iconic Castle House building designed by George S. Hay and built between 1959 and 1964, it now occupies the space that formerly housed the Co-op department store, which also inspired the naming of the venue.
Project Director Jonathan Perry says he hopes Department can help support the area of Castlegate.
“We are a very open business in the sense that we want to work with local people, we want to work with the local community.
“We’ve created this massive social space that has every element that we feel is needed by the people of Sheffield.”
