Sheffield United will face Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday in a potentially historic clash, with the Blades able to relegate their city rivals at Bramall Lane.

The derby kicks off at 12pm on Sunday at Bramall Lane and will be shown live on Sky Sports Football.

Both teams are coming into the derby in completely different circumstances. The Blades will be looking to build on their fine form, having won three and drawn one of their last five matches, as they continue to push for the play-off places.

Matthieu Grospeaud, a French Sheffield United fan travelling from France to watch the derby, said: “The derby is always special. Whatever the league table says, the city is at stake.

“I’m expecting a Blades win, and I hope we do it properly, improving our goal difference could matter at the end of the season.”

On the other hand, the Owls are enduring a miserable season, as they are bottom of the league on minus seven points, picking up only one win and eight draws in 32 games.

Sheffield Wednesday could make history as they could become the first-ever EFL side to be relegated with negative points.

Sheffield Wednesday fan Oliver Justice said: “As much as I want to beat them, we will most likely lose once again. I just hope our players at least put up a fight.

“It’s been a very depressing season, I just want it to end as quickly as possible.”

A Sheffield United win would mathematically relegate Sheffield Wednesday to League One, which would be a historic moment that Blades fans will cheer on for years.

Sheffield Wednesday finally found the net in their last game against Millwall, after failing to score in their previous 10 matches. They will be hoping to score some more on Sunday.

Bramall Lane is sold out for Sunday’s clash in what should be a great atmosphere. To ensure everyone’s safety, there will be visible increased police presence on the day.

Chief Inspector Jonathan Greaves said: “We work closely with both Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, as well as the local authority, to ensure everyone can enjoy this month’s Steel City Derby.”
