A main road has now re-opened in Doncaster as police finish their investigation into a single vehicle collision.

Police were called to reports of a single vehicle collision at 5:30am yesterday at Hexthorpe Road, Doncaster.

The driver was reported to have stab wounds which were sustained at a nearby property on Hexthorpe Road.

South Yorkshire Police said the driver was taken to hospital where he remains in serious, but not life threatening condition.

The police said a 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault, which is wounding with intent or causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He remains in custody.

A man who works in the area described how scary it was with rumours that there was a shooting: “We’re all so confused here. What is this city turning into?”

Police had blocked off roads eastbound from Hexthorpe Road to St James’ Church but have announced that all roads are now open.
