Harrison Buckley, of Pingles Crescent, Rotherham, has been charged with possessing a firearm with the intent to endanger life after police were called on Monday.
A report was made after a gunshot was heard in the Clifton area.
Detective Inspector Matt Barnes, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “We appreciate everyone who has already provided information to us.
“We continue to appeal for anyone who knows anything about this incident to come forward and report it.”
Trained firearms officers found evidence inside a property on Middle Lane and a firearm has been recovered as part of the investigation.
Buckley has been taken into custody and will appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court today.
Police also arrested a 26-year-old man for suspected firearm possession, and he is now on bail.
