Civilians and council members gathered in Sheffield Balm Green Gardens on Sunday to mark the annual COVID-19 Memorial Day in an emotional tribute to those lost during the pandemic.

Speeches were delivered by council members reflecting on the lasting impact the pandemic has had on Sheffield and the importance of remembering those who were lost

Safiya Saeed, Lord Mayor, said: “I love this city because when we start a tradition we carry it on.

“I hope this follows on for future generations.”

The COVID-19 Day of Reflection is marked nationally each year on the first Sunday of March, bringing communities together to ensure the lives lost are never forgotten.
