Hindus in Sheffield have been celebrating Holi, widely known as the festival of colours, this week at the Millennium Gallery.

The Sunrit Culture Group are a Sheffield-based company who organised the event.

They celebrated their South Asian culture by hosting a fair with shops and activities which were open to everyone.

The fair was followed by a dance performance which featured traditional Indian theatre.

For Hindus, the festival celebrates the end of winter, community and the power of ‘good’ over evil. They pray, dance and throw coloured powder on each other. Traditionally, non-Hindus are also invited to celebrate.

The Gallery, which is based in the city centre, was busy for the occasion.
