The campaign group ‘Save Sheffield Green Belt’ has delivered a progress report at a meeting in Ecclesfield School.
Residents of villages including Chapeltown, Grenoside and Ecclesfield have been in a battle with Sheffield City Council over the attempted release of Green Belt land in order to meet national housing targets.
Plans have been discussed which would see Green Belt land in S35 and S13 released under ‘exceptional circumstances.’
Residents believe this is a powerful precedent which would set future release.
The council insists it is using a ‘brownfield first’ approach, but campaigners claim there has not been a call for sites since 2019.
Jo Tunsall, the group’s secretary, said: “We still have a voice and we are not going away.”
