A temporary planetarium in Sheffield city centre aims to spark an interest in science among young people.
The large inflatable dome, currently set up on Fargate, is run by Planetarium Go! UK and will remain in the city until March 28 before moving on to the city of Hull.
Planetarium visitor Ela Babuccu, 20, said: “When I heard about the Planetarium I was really excited. Growing up, I used to go to one in my local area so I am really happy I got to experience it again in Sheffield.”

Inside the structure, visitors can watch immersive films about astronomy and science projected across a 360-degree dome.
Each screening lasts around 20 to 30 minutes and is designed to make audiences feel as though they are travelling through space, using advanced projection systems, immersive sound and individual headphones.
José Jiménez, from Planetarium Go! UK, said: “One of our main objectives is to spark an interest in science among the youngest, encouraging them to study astronomy by awakening their scientific curiosity.”
The company was founded to bring astronomy experiences to cities that do not have permanent planetariums.
The dome is currently touring around England visiting cities such as London, Manchester, Northampton and Hull.
Mr Jiménez also said: “Many cities lack a planetarium, so one of our missions is to provide communities with the opportunity to enjoy an immersive experience with a strong educational component”.
Sheffield was chosen as a key location because of its large student population and strong cultural scene. The attraction has already welcomed hundreds of visitors, with several local schools also booking visits.
Special screenings are available for schools, alongside discounted family tickets and student tickets for the general public.
