Sheffield’s latest music venue, Electric Sheffield, opened last Friday with a headline performance from DJ Wilkinson.
The venue has opened in the former home of The Leadmill, which was evicted last year following a prolonged legal battle to retain the space for its original purpose.
Since The Leadmill closed last June, the building has undergone a drastic renovation, resulting in an increased capacity of up to 1500.
Dexter Payne, 20, attended the first event on Friday, and described it as a “really good night”.
He said: “They’ve remade it with a more warehouse vibe which suits the drum & bass style events I know they’re doing.
“The lineup they had and have got in the future looks really good with some big names.
“As a student it was definitely a slightly older crowd which was something different from a lot of nights out for a change so the crowd seemed sort of more respectful and enjoyable.
“Overall the night was really fun and the lighting they had was really good. I’d say it felt similar to Tank with its line-up, but it was a much better venue to be in.”
Online reviews for Electric Sheffield have also been positive, with a 4.5 rating on ticket-buying website Skiddle.
Estelle Ealand wrote: “Fantastic night, great music, sound system, intimate venue, amazing vibes.”
However, the venue has come into question for its pricing, with entry costing around £20 for the event last Friday, which drinks have also been reported to be extremely expensive, at £12 for a double measure.
Rich Randall also criticised the staff, describing the security as “Militant, rude and unpleasant,” and the bar staff as “slow” and “inexperienced”.

The finishing touches to the building were still being carried out last Friday in the hours before opening, with numerous contractors working on the venue throughout the day and putting the finishing touches to the exterior and interior of the building.
As well as Wilkinson, the opening weekend also featured performances from Culture Shock, Harriet Jaxxon, Camo & Crooked and Gentleman’s Dub Club, whilst there will be gigs coming up from bands such as Overpass and Leveller.
