The Conservatives fended off competition from Reform UK to hold their Axholme Central councillor seat following yesterday’s by-election.
Caroline Finch managed to earn 925 votes, with Reform UK’s Gerrard Farmer polling behind on 668.
Mrs Finch will be elected to North Lincolnshire council where she will serve as part of a Conservative majority that has been held since 2011.
85.5% of votes in the election were for the Conservatives or Reform, with Alex Ellis of the Green Party and Matthew Thomas Rawcliffe of Labour earning just 260 votes between them.
The election was called due to the death of the previous Conservative councillor David Robinson, who had served in the post for almost 15 years.
Despite The Isle of Axeholme being part of the North Lincolnshire Unitary Authority, boundary changes in 2023 meant Axeholme Central became part of the new Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme parliamentary constituency in 2024.
Axholme Central results:
Caroline Ann Finch (Local Conservatives) – 925
Gerrad Farmer (Reform UK) – 668
Alex Ellis (Green Party) – 157
Matthew Thomas Rawcliffe (Labour Party) – 103
Michael David Shaw (Liberal Democrats) – 28
Turnout 31.23%
