The University of Sheffield has hosted Japan Day every year since 2011, after organisers launched it as a fundraiser following the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.

The earthquake was one of the most severe natural disasters globally in recent history.

The original Japan day proved extremely popular, leading organisers to make it an annual event.

This year’s celebration saw performers travel internationally,  with a traditional enka singer and koto player making their way from Japan.

Attendees were able to experience a wide array of Japanese cultures.

Organisers provided cultural workshops including kimono fitting, flower arranging, calligraphy, and taiko drumming.

Local Japanese restaurant Guyshi also had their own stall and provided food during the event.
