The Owls are flying high in league one sitting at the top of the table after defeating Plymouth Argyle 1-0 in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 33,000 at Hillsborough.

Wednesday are currently level on points with Argyle after Callum Paterson’s goal proved decisive, firing in Will Vaulks’ cross at the near post in the seventh minute.

As a result, the fans’ mood is at an all-time high, with coach Darren Moore shutting down rumours of a return to his previous role as manager of West Brom whilst also being nominated alongside Wednesday star Josh Windass for the Sky Bet League One Manager and Player of the Month awards for January, respectively.

Long-time Wednesday fan, Adam Eccles, 25 said: “To see our side play with confidence and togetherness for the first time in years is truly wonderful to see as a fan.

“[Moore] is the final link in the chain that keeps this harmony ticking over, He’s building somewhat of a legacy here, he wouldn’t have thrown that away for another club.”

The Owls face yet another clash against a promotion contender on Saturday, travelling down to Portman road to take on Ipswich Town.

James Mappin, 33, host of the popular Wednesday ‘Til I Die’ podcast, spoke on the upcoming game saying: “All we have to do is avoid defeat, easier said than done but I’m sure we’re going to be a lot more positive heading into this game with the run that we’re on than the Ipswich fans.”

The Tractor Boys who sit in third place with similar aspirations of making a return to the EFL Championship were held to a 1-1 draw against Cambridge despite maintaining 73% possession in their last League One fixture

Mappin also said: “In order to get promoted and win titles you need to have these unbeaten runs and that’s what we’re doing.”

The fixture is completely sold out, meaning an estimated 29,500 fans will be in attendance for the highly anticipated match, including 2,148 tickets sold to Wednesday supporters in the away end, which is also at full capacity.

When asked about his expectations for the rest of the season, Simon Akers, 57, said: “I really hope we win the league. The players are starting to believe and so are the fans. We’re all in it together and I just hope we finish the job and get to win the league in front of a full house on May 7th.”
