Sheffield Beer Week returns for its ninth year with a new theme of ‘Going back to our beer roots’.

This year’s events showcase and celebrate the brilliant beers and breweries Sheffield has to offer.

What is Sheffield Beer Week?

Sheffield Beer Week is a week-long festival where pubs, bars and restaurants collaborate with local and national breweries and many new beers are created.

The first Sheffield Beer Week was held in 2015 and organised by two beer lovers, Jules Gray and Clare Tollick, who were inspired by the SIBA conference and Beer X festival and wanted to showcase their local beer scene.

Jules Gray, organiser of Sheffield Beer Week, said: “I think it’s a really positive thing for the city. I kept seeing all these beer weeks in America and I was getting frustrated with people talking about Manchester and Leeds but no one was talking about Sheffiled’s beer scene.

“I think it’s different and unique and has its own personality.”

What is happening this Sheffield Beer Week?

Sheffield breweries Tapped Brew Co, Little Critters, Heist, Loxley, Abbeydale and True North are already planning special beers for the week.

Tapped Brew Co is also planning a live brewing day on Wednesday with Head Brewer, Ben Tysoe, brewing a new beer all afternoon.

Saint Mars of the Desert and Stancill breweries are hosting open tap days, whilst the restored Kelham Island Brewery will be highlighting its flagship beer Pale Rider.

When does Sheffield Beer Week begin?

The week is kicking off with Indie Beer Feast on 3 March and 4 March all day at Trafalgar Square, Sheffield.

The boutique beer feast offers a collaboration with Abbeydale Brewery with their Cloud Peak Session IPA, brewery bars, natural wine and street food.

Jules Gray, the head organiser of Indie Beer Feast, said: “I would love for people to discover what’s in their home town and try new beers that are made right on their doorstep.

“I want to remind people of the importance of supporting your local economy and create a joyful celebration that brings that human connection back.”

What collaborations are there?

Collaborations with International Women’s Brew day and Lost Industry Brewery are held on Wednesday to celebrate women in the beer industry and to get more women involved in beer.

There are a range of running events including a trail run organised by Abbeydale Brewery and Rising Sun pub and Hop Hideout beer shop’s all abilities welcome run social.
