The Owls and Pompey go head to head on Saturday afternoon in a clash between two of the biggest clubs in League One this season, The match will take place in front of over 20,000 eager fans hoping to see their team take a step closer to promotion.
The official Portsmouth website shows that there are no home end tickets remaining, and It was confirmed last week already that Wednesday had yet again sold out their allocation of 1,600 tickets for the game carrying on the fans run of sell outs this season.
This comes as no surprise to Owls fans who have been following the team this campaign, season ticket holder Nathan Barcio, 20, spoke on the fans dedication this season “we sell out everywhere we go and it’s an incredible reward for the fans who have been through the highs and lows of the previous few years to be able to sing that we are top of the league.”
Just under 16,500 attended the fixture in 2021, However Pompey sit ten points off sixth-placed Derby at this point in time, and while it will be tough to catch them it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
John Mousinho’s side is also on a five game unbeaten run which has led to speculation that this weekend’s game will become the biggest attendance at Fratton Park this season, beating the 19,009 set when they took on Plymouth Argyle back in September.
Despite their opposition’s overwhelming support, Owls fans remain hopeful of a positive result due to a barnstorming run of form which has left them sitting top of the table without loss in more than five months.
Wednesday ’till I die podcast host James Mappin, 33, spoke on the run “I’m Absolutely delighted with the form at the moment and how can you not be, 21 games unbeaten is absolutely phenomenal, I never thought that i’d be watching a Wednesday side playing in the way that we are.”
Travelling Owls fans will be reassured by the return of key contributors Reece James, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and David Stockdale who are all expected to be back in contention for the trip to Portsmouth which could help to further solidify their position at the top of the table.
