The genre-defying play ‘Black Sheep’, is a boundary-breaking story of a black queer woman finding love whilst the world works against her.

Writer, poet and musician Livia Kojo Alour, who frequently performed on stages around the world as a sword swallower shares her story, growing up in Germany as one of the only black queer people in her area .

She talked to ShefNews about the difficulties of institutional racism and homophobia, which is later heightened in her role at a circus where her voice was silenced by those around her.

Throughout the performance, she overcomes challenges with her own self-love and motivation in her words, forging an engaging connection with her audience.

The play was performed at the University of Sheffield’s drama studio on the 29th of March 2023.
