Sheffield Council has defended spending £85,000 on the coronation celebrations last weekend.
Over 40 street parties took place around Sheffield including a city centre event where up to 15,000 people attended.
Gary Clifton, Major Events Manager at Sheffield City Council, said: “We know that this funding not only supported events for thousands of people in the city centre, but thousands of people across Sheffield in the community.
“We believe hosting events and allowing Sheffield to celebrate is vital in bringing people together, boosting the local economy and raising civic pride. “
But as food prices soar and rent increases, many event goers in Sheffield are questioning whether spending all this money on a celebration is wise.
