Life expectancy in the UK has been falling for the past ten years, with areas like Doncaster scoring particularly low according to The Health Foundation.

University of Sheffield professor Alan Walker, head of the Healthy Lifespan Institute, blames austerity and poor economic performance for lowering our standards of living, and in turn, our life expectancy.

This explains why areas such as South Yorkshire score particularly low compared to wealthier parts of the country.

These regional disparities have been highlighted by a newly formed charity coalition, Health Equals, which says people from some areas live, on average, 18 years less than others in the country.

The charity group is campaigning to educate people on these inequalities, and to combat
them head on with active measures to improve our health.
