Recent burglaries in the Crookes area of Sheffield have left people concerned for their safety.

In recent months, people have claimed the number of break-ins in the area has led to them having to take extra precautions in order to protect themselves and their belongings.

A burglary was reported in the Crookes area in the hours between Saturday night and Sunday morning, with the victim admitting that the experience was “terrifying”.

Mads A told ShefNews his home was broken into in the early hours of Sunday morning. He said police attended the scene and took several photos.

The burglars managed to prise open one of Mads’ windows and enter – helping themselves to many valuable items including tech and other sentimental items from family members.

The burglars broke open Mads’ window to enter his house.

Mads said: “Waking up and seeing everything, knowing these people were only a few feet from you and you had no idea is a terrifying thing to go through.”

He added: “We are one of a few very lucky people in that there seems to be some leads and motivation to get our belongings back.”

Crookes resident Calan Curtis said: “I feel safe some of the time, but not as safe as I should feel. I don’t walk home much by myself if it’s late. I’ve heard of some burglaries near Waller Road recently but I do feel that as long as I lock my doors and take the right precautions I am relatively safe.”

According to South Yorkshire Police, 58 crimes were reported in Crookes in December 2023 alone.

A burglary took place on Waller Road in December 2023, however after a police investigation, the suspect was not identified.

David Roberts, who lives in Crookes, said: “The fact that we don’t know who is committing these break-ins is the scariest part for me. It makes me anxious knowing that someone could be targeting your house for a burglary at any point.”
