A Sheffield business woman has reached the finals of two national awards due to her work in the skincare industry.
Izzy Gannon, 28, is the founder of Fixation Skincare based on Abbeydale Road, and has been named as a finalist in the UK Hair and Beauty Awards and the National Beauty Awards. She is up for titles such as best clinic, best skincare therapist, and skin care specialist of the year.
She said: “It’s really nice to receive recognition in the industry, I really want to teach people about their skin and be someone trusted in the industry.”
Miss Gannon has been in the skincare industry for 10 years, first starting off working as a skin therapist on one of the biggest cruise ships in the world at only 19.
After becoming more familiar with the industry, Miss Gannon said that she realised she was ‘a chatty therapist’ and wouldn’t be best suited for relaxation skincare.
She said: “Everything was becoming more results driven and for me that felt like it was a better fit, something that was a bit more interactive where I could teach clients.”
Additionally, she has her own social media series, Skin School 101, where she wants to ‘teach people based on a more science based and results driven approach’.
The skincare specialist said that she has noticed more clients who are confused about their skin, due to hearing so many different things online, potentially due to social media viral products that aren’t backed with a qualified opinion.
Skin School 101 was created in response to the emergence of targeted marketing and the rise of social media, where celebrity recommendations sometimes ‘have more of an impact than people think’.
When asked what advice she should give to other young entrepreneurs, she said: “You’ve got to back yourself, focus on your self-worth as well and I think if you’ve got a dream definitely pursue it. What’s the worst that could happen?”
Miss Gannon plans to continue educating others on the importance of skincare, both through her social media and her clients.
