A student has told how he was shocked to find someone had broken into his home and stolen some of his and his housemates’ belongings.

The incident happened last night at a house on Spring Hill Road in Crookesmoore, Sheffield, some time between 6pm and 4am.

The people who live in the house arrived back after a night out to find all of their laptops and other electronic devices, such as iPads and speakers, had been stolen.

Finn Lever, 21, a student at the University of Sheffield, came back to find his laptop stolen. He said: “It was more of a shock than anything to find all of our stuff gone.

“We’ve just got to be a bit pragmatic about it, there’s not a lot you can do.”

It is unclear how the burglar entered the building, but it is possible that either those living in the house left the back door open, or the burglar climbed up the wall and opened a second floor window to get in.

Neighbours told Finn that they thought they saw a figure leaving the house in the middle of the night when all the occupants were out.

The six men who live in the house called the police early this morning when they realised their belongings were missing.

They were told by the police that the CSI team will be visiting the premises to run DNA tests.

The police also advise people to keep valuable possessions and charging leads out of view through windows, and lock doors and windows, especially at night.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “We were called at 11.27am today following reports of a burglary at a property on Spring Hill Road in Sheffield. It is reported that a number of items including multiple laptops, an ipad, a Nintendo Switch and a quantity of cash was stolen from the property overnight.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we would encourage anyone with information to contact us on 101 quoting incident number 293 of 29 February 2024.”
