Sheffield KFC was granted permission by the council to open overnight after striking a deal with the police.
As of now the KFC closes between 12am-2am every day but last week they applied for a 24-hour licence, planning to sell food and drink between the hours of 11pm and 5am.
A residents group called ChangingSheff objected to the 24 hour plans.
A spokesperson for the group said: “This will create noise and disturbance below what is primarily a residential building.
“We question the benefits to people living in the locality of having 24 hour fast food availability and suspect the application is primarily for Deliveroo and Just Eat couriers serving people elsewhere.”
South Yorkshire Police also objected saying there could be ‘issues with those in drink’ and urged the KFC to close between 5am and 7am each day.
The council licensing sub-committee said this had been agreed by the firm and the application for the late-night refreshment provision was discussed on Monday and granted permission.
There has been mixed reactions on social media with some saying it will create more jobs and others expecting a rise in crime and loiterers.
According to the BBC a spokesperson for the KFC said the firm was committed to being a responsible neighbour.
They said: “We will work closely with the local authorities to ensure they are satisfied that all concerns raised have been addressed.
“We will continue to work closely with the community in Sheffield to ensure KFC continues to be a positive addition to the local area in all respects.”
