Sheffield City Council has announced capital grants for the Mercia Learning Trust which will benefit two schools allowing them to create more special educational needs (SEN) places.

A grant of £363,885 has been provided for Woodlands Primary with the council expecting this could create up to 20 additional SEN places.

A grant of £136,928 for Nether Edge Primary will enable them to provide around 15 extra SEN places.

The places will be for pupils aged 4-11 who have special educational needs and disabilities.

These needs could range from having ASD as well as speech, language and communication needs.

The funds aim to ensure more children with special educational needs will be able to access schools local to them which would help reduce travel costs for their parents/carers.
