Pro-Palestine students and members of the public are on their third day of camping outside The University of Sheffield’s Student Union.
The protest is to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people as they call for an end to military action in Gaza.
A protestor who attended yesterday said: “All the speeches are very emotive and very moving, and I feel like they’re very powerful especially when there are so many people who care so much about it.”
She said the atmosphere made her want to pitch a tent and support the fellow protestors.
She said: “So many people shouting about it makes you want to join in.
“It’s so easy to distance yourself from it and that its happening because most people are so unaffected by it here, but seeing people be so emotional about it reminds you and makes you passionate about it.
“It makes me want to help especially when they give so many examples of stuff that’s happening.”
She says seeing people makes such a big statement, such as camping, makes you really want to ‘stop and think about it and hear what they’re saying.’
Similar protests are happening in other UK universities as a response to the sit-ins on campuses in the United States.
Universities such as Manchester, Leeds and Bristol are a few taking part.
The protests are starting to gain momentum outside of student life, as members of the public begin to get involved.
The protest can be seen on the grass outside the University’s Student Union, outside Coffee Revolution.
