Premier League side Crystal Palace showed their class as they eased past the league 2 side.
Doncaster Rovers exit the FA Cup in round 4 after previous victories against Barrow, Kettering and Hull City.
All Rovers fans with a sense of reality did not expect the South Yorkshire side to come out on top against the Premier League side that have found form after their rough start to the season.
The fixture saw the second largest home attendance at Eco-Power Stadium since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking to Doncaster Free Press, Crystal Palace Manager Oliver Glasner gave Doncaster their kudos: “Credit to Doncaster – they had a good match plan and made the second half tough.”
Doncaster Rovers manager, Grant McCann is clearly focusing his efforts to the league as the Rovers hope to finish in the automatic promotion spots.
He said: “I’m really proud of the players and the performance. We only have one goal now.”
The Rovers boss is looking ahead to the final 16 league games, starting with Grimsby at home in the early 12:30pm kick off.
Fans have recognised the positive impact that the FA Cup money will give to the club.
Doncaster fan, Will Russell, said: “The cup run is the best thing we could ask for. It was nice to see England internationals playing at Eco-Power stadium. Obviously, it is disappointing to be eliminated but at least we can now solely focus on promotion.”
Doncaster currently sit 5th in EFL League Two with 52 points, 8 points off the league leaders Walsall.
Ahead of 6th place Port Vale’s clash with Notts County tonight, Doncaster are only a single point behind the Nottingham side sitting in second place with 53 points.
Since the FA Cup matchup, several championship clubs are monitoring the Joseph Olowu contract situation, with Derby County, Hull City and Reading amongst the clubs interested.
Doncaster will be doing everything they can to avoid the 25 year-old leaving the club for free in the Summer.
