South Yorkshire Orienteers (SYO) hosted an all-ages sprint event at the University of Sheffield, Endcliffe Campus on Wednesday evening.

The oldest participant, Monika Cooper, is 79 years old and still enjoys the event after years of participating.

She said: “I was the British Night champion when I was 60. I will continue orienteering. It is my biggest hobby.”

On the evening of February 26, organisers divided participants into different courses and routes according to varying age groups.

There are different check-in points along the way, and every group has a different map.

Pauline Tryner, the club development officer said: “We conduct safety tests every time to ensure the race goes smoothly. We chose Endcliffe because it has a complex terrain but low traffic volume.”
