One Sheffield, Many Communities, is a Sheffield city campaign under City of Sanctuary that aims to strengthen bonds and connections between different residing groups.
Work started last Monday, leading up to celebrations in 2027 which will mark the anniversary of Sheffield becoming the first City of Sanctuary, under the eponymous campaign.
The campaign maintains its necessity due to ‘heightened community tensions stemming from poverty, misinformation, demographic change and wider social division’, as a report to the city council detailed.
“The campaign will celebrate the different communities that make Sheffield such an amazing city.”
The campaign plans on holding dedicated events for International Women’s Day, Pride Month, Black History Month, and Men’s Health Week. It will also collaborate with other major city events and religious festivals.
City of Sanctuary was founded in 2005, by Craig Barnett and Inderjit Singh Bhogal.
It took just two years for Sheffield to become the first recognised City of Sanctuary, with the combined support of over 70 community organisations and the city council working together to create a culture of solidarity and inclusivity.
Councillor Tom Hunt said: “We are a city of many faiths, many communities, many backgrounds, but we are one Sheffield, a city that we all love.”
