Sheffield based social enterprise ‘Gags For Good’ are holding a comedy night for YWCA Yorkshire this International Women’s Day, Sunday 8th March.

The event will be at Heist Brew Co. in Neepsend, where there will be performances from 8 female comedians, including headline act, Liesl Soards.

Co-founder of Gags for Good, April Thompson, said: “It’s a celebration of women, and a celebration of women in comedy. But also, we want to turn that celebration into action.

“If the laughter in the room might directly support services for local women in our region, that makes the event worth doing.”

All comedians that are performing on the night are donating their time, meaning that proceeds from all tickets will directly benefit YCWA Yorkshire, and women across South Yorkshire.

Gags For Good, founded in 2025, are committed to bringing ‘laughter with a purpose’ through their events, which also include workshops to help people build confidence performing on stage.

April said: “Pairing comedy with this fundraiser means that people, they’ll come out for a good night, but they’ll leave understanding why organizations such as YWCA matter so much in our region”.

As well as raising important funds for local charity, the event also aims to promote female led comedy, which April believes is often overlooked.

She said: “Comedy has historically been male dominated, so putting women front and centre isn’t just symbolic, it’s also very meaningful.

“All the performers are local women comedians who work the comedy circuit, and they’ve all got a distinct voice. They’re a range of ages, and they’ve all got different comedy styles.”

“I intentionally picked the brewery to host, because that space is naturally centred around men’s voices, so I feel like that is quite symbolic as well.”

YCWA Yorkshire has been providing services to people in the region since the 1940s, and supports over 800 people annually, including through 3 housing projects in Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster.

April said: “If the laughter in the room might directly support services for local women in our region, then that makes the event worth doing.”

Tickets for the event are now on sale here, with accessible tickets also available.
