A Sheffield councillor has successfully persuaded Sheffield City Council to develop a new landlord licensing scheme.
It was almost a unanimous vote in favour of the scheme, apart from one Reform member.
Labour’s Minesh Parekh is making the case for city-wide coverage to protect every renter against ‘poor-quality’ homes and ‘bad landlords.”
Sheffield had previous pilot schemes in Page Hall, Abbeydale Road, Chesterfield Road and London Road until early 2024. These initiatives identified hundreds of safety hazards and forced over £1.4 million in repairs, resulting in fines for non-compliant landlords.
Cllr Parekh said he doesn’t want “the quality of someone’s house to depend on the area they live in.”
