Plans for three new pedestrian crossings in Sheffield have moved forward after £90,000 was approved to fund initial investigations.
Sheffield City Council’s finance and performance policy committee agreed to the proposals on Monday (16 March).
The proposed schemes are set to take place on Broad Lane in the city centre, Stradbroke Road near Outwood Academy, and Hollybank Road in Intake. The plan aims to create an environment where more people feel safer to walk, wheel and cycle.
The funding for the pedestrian crossings is provided through City Region Sustainable Transport Revenue funding.

Sheffield City Council has previously outlined ambitions to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the city’s roads, with investment in crossings and other safety measures seen as a key step towards that goal.
While the £90,000 funding does not guarantee that crossings will be installed, it marks a significant step towards potential improvements, allowing detailed investigations and design work to begin, which will improve the visibility of oncoming traffic to drivers and pedestrians
According to reports, the work is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, although the current funding does not guarantee that the crossings will be built.
If the plans follow through, the schemes could help make some of Sheffield’s busiest and most at-risk roads safer for local communities.
