A nine-year-old boy is running the equivalent of nine marathons to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity.
Oliver, from Barnsley, is fundraising for the charity after they helped his family navigate his dad’s brain tumour diagnosis.
His father, Tom Smith, was 40 when he was diagnosed with a 4cm meningioma tumour, which was discovered after he lost nearly all of his vision in one eye.
The Brain Tumour Charity helped Oliver and his family with support and information.
In order to give back, Oliver decided to tackle an epic marathon training programme and he has easily exceeded his £2000 fundraising target.
His father said: “I know he’s only nine but he’s been running since he was four and endurance activities are just what he does.
“He finished third in Yorkshire for his age group in 2024 so he’s a fit lad and that’s why this running challenge is something he wanted to do.
“I’m so proud of Oliver. I’m not in the position to do these things myself so the fact that people are supporting us is amazing.”
Oliver had raised over £11,000 and is keeping people updated with his progress on social media.
He has been awarded with a Heart Yorkshire Heroes award and been nominated for another local prize.
