Kick boxing classes are boosting confidence, energising and empowering women across Sheffield
Savage Ladies Kickboxing hosts weekly classes in Fairfield and Letchworth to empower and improve women’s safety.
Women are twice as likely to develop anxiety than men which is what the classes attempt to combat.
Owner Casey Hargreaves said: “Most women do not have a lot of free time which can cause stress. It all adds up,
“Work, kids, home life. It is like a domino effect,
“We are trying to create a space where they can switch off from all of that.
“Some women come for self-defence, some come for their mental health and some just for a hobby. Some women come for all three.”
The classes are beginner friendly and act as a stress relief in a non-judgemental environment.
Demand for women-only fitness spaces has grown across Sheffield and the wider UK as more women seek supportive environments to exercise and manage stress.
Concerns around personal safety have also increased in recent years, particularly following high profile cases like the murder of Sarah Everard, prompting many to look for practical self-defence skills.
Many women join the classes because they themselves feel unsafe, and Savage Ladies believe that self-protection skills matter.
Mr Hargreaves said: “We train until it becomes automatic so that they do not freeze in panic mode,
“One of our members said that the self-defence she learned here potentially saved her life.”
The company’s six-week courses are designed to energise and empower. Participants will meet like-minded women, benefit from expert coaching and take part in high-energy workouts that keep motivation levels high.
Sessions help attendees understand how to support their bodies outside of training, while creating opportunities for social interaction and friendships before and after classes. This strengthens connections and encourages continued participation among women who may otherwise feel isolated or hesitant to join fitness groups.
Each participant will receive a complimentary pair of boxing gloves, giving them everything they need to get started.
