A new Tesco Express branch has been granted a licence to sell alcohol between 06:00 and midnight, despite public health concerns from the Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership.
Sheffield City Council approved the application for the Velocity Village development after hearing objections from the SCSP. The SCSP said their objections were related to child protection.
Maureen Hennessy, a licensing officer for the SCSP said that the partnership asks all off-licences to adhere to a voluntary agreement not to sell alcohol before 08:00 and after 23:00.
Jeremy Bark, a solicitor representing Tesco said that “public health is not a licensing objective.”
