A man from Sheffield is walking more than 20 miles a day, from John O’Groats to Land’s End, for men’s mental health.

Jordan Darby, 39, from Sheffield, set off on his journey on 1 May and will be covering around 1200 miles to raise money for Andy’s Man Club.

The charity is close to his heart after struggling for more than 20 years with his mental health.

He encourages others to get outside and embrace nature, as he acknowledges how much it has helped him.

He said: “I have had some of the best days of my life outside hiking, and seen so many amazing things and so many amazing places. Before I started getting out, I hadn’t seen owt.”

Andy’s Man Club is a mental health charity that runs free, volunteer-led talking groups for men aged 18 and over every Monday across the UK.

Although Mr Darby has never used these services himself, he thinks it is important for people who are struggling to reach out.

Darby is now almost halfway through his trek, and says he has had ups and downs already.

He said: “The main thing I have taken away from this journey so far is the amazing people. I have had people putting me up for the night in B&Bs, I have had free pub lunches from people who want to help me out.

“It is all quite surreal, to be honest with you.”

Mr Darby has an overwhelming amount of people reaching out to him to say that what he is doing is helping them out massively, and that he is an inspiration.

He said: “All I am doing is coming out on a walk to prove to people that we can push through hard days. And it is nice to see that people are taking things from it.”

Mr Darby is now on day 22 of his journey, and hopes to have reached the 500 mile mark by the end of the day.

He has already beaten his target of raising £5000.

Despite his throbbing feet and aching legs at the end of the day, Mr Darby is feeling very positive about his journey so far.
