The colours of happiness, excitement and joy are all over the Hindu community across Sheffield for the Holi season of 2023.

The Hindu Samaj at Sheffield is all set to host the biggest holi celebration post Covid-19 and it starts next week.

Holi is known as the festival of colours, life and joy and is celebrated for a week on a grand scale all across India.

Ever since the pandemic, restrictions placed over these kind of festivals restricting people from completely immersing in them, but for 2023 the Hindu Samaj has decided to make up for those restrictions by making this year’s Holi “king sized”.

Mansa Seth, an active member for the Hindu Samaj, said: “With the pandemic, with Covid we have seen dark times and we as a community hope we can help easing the pain with this small initiative.

“We wish everyone a happy holi and hope this holi season fills all of our lives with bright colours of happiness, god willing.”

The Hindu Samaj takes pride in being a safe haven for the Hindu community across Sheffield with their members ranging from Hindus living locally to the international students who come to Sheffield from India and the neighbouring lands.

The festival will take place at the Hindu Mandir in Buckenham Street with Holika Dahan on Monday, March 6 and will end with Holi Rang Panchmi on Sunday, March 12 at the Hindu Mandir, also in Buckenham Street.

Aarti Rana, 24, an Architecture student who is planning on attending the event said: ”It’s a sense of joy, a sense of connectivity and happiness after the depressed and lonely winter season.”

Holi is an ancient festival in India where people celebrate the evil over good by playing with colours and enjoying delicious traditional delicacies. There is a lot more to expect Hindu samaj’s preperations with traditional songs and dance throught the week.
