It’s award season in Hollywood and an Academy Award is what all the stars are after.
The 95th Academy Awards is this weekend and it’s hard to know who will win, after numerous films have racked up all sorts of wins over the awards season.
The Oscars ceremony takes place on Sunday 12th March in The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Viewers in the UK will be able to watch the ceremony in the early hours of Monday morning on Sky Cinema Oscars.
Alongside the awards, there will be performances from some of this year’s best original song nominees.
One performance will be from Rihanna, fresh from her Super Bowl half time show, singing “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Favourite to sweep up a lot of the awards on Sunday is ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’. The film has already racked up 335 awards out of 356 nominations so far.
It has 11 Oscar nominations, including Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh (which is the first nomination in this category for an Asian woman) and Best Picture.
Both Netflix’s ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ and the Irish tragic comedy ‘The Banshees of Inisherin‘ have been nominated nine times in different categories and are expected to win big.
The latter will be hoping to win some awards in the week commencing St Patrick’s Day. Collin Farrell is amongst those nominated for Best Actor, with other cast members up for their supporting roles.
Fans will be hoping for more focus on the films themselves this year.
Last year’s ceremony was clouded by the controversial moment Will Smith walked on stage and slapped presenter Chris Rock, before going on to win Best Actor.
He has since been banned from attending the Oscars for ten years.
Jimmy Kimmel of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ is hosting the awards this time around, following on from the comedian last year.
It will be Kimmel’s third time hosting the awards, planting him in an elite selection of people who have hosted three times, including Steve Martin and Jerry Lewis.
After hosting in 2017 and 2018, perhaps Kimmel is a safe way to make sure the night stays focused on the films this year, not the drama the actors may bring.
