As Earth Day was celebrated across the globe this year, so was ‘EcoUnity’ with Ukraine. 34 cities in 19 different countries, including Sheffield, campaigned to stop the ecocide perpetuated by Russia.

Over the weekend a group of Ukrainian activists came together in the city centre to take part in the demonstrations.

Campaigners came together linking arms, symbolic of the chain being formed across the world in participating cities, standing united against Russia.

The following morning, in partnership with The Zest Centre and Wilder Neighbourhoods a group of volunteers led by Pavlo Romaniukha, the event organiser, gathered at Philadelphia Gardens to plant trees.

Mr. Romaniukha said planting the trees is a symbol of growth, and he hopes the destroyed cities in Ukraine will grow back strong like the saplings.
