In a heart-warming tale of love and destiny, a Hong Kong couple who were both new immigrants to the UK, have found each other and tied the knot in Sheffield.
It all began when 29-year-old Edmond and 30-year-old Jackie were both working in the stage and theatre production industry in Hong Kong.
Edmond said: “Although we work in the same industry, I only met her through work and we never had any personal contact. We followed each other on social media, but never actually communicated.”
However, fate intervened when they both moved to the UK last year in search of new opportunities.
While Edmond continued to work in the stage industry in Manchester, Jackie decided to pursue a different career path and started working in sales in Coventry.
Their paths crossed during a common friend’s trip to Manchester, and they hit it off immediately. Edmond said: “As soon as I found out that Jackie is coming to Manchester with my friend, I wanted to join them right away.”
Jackie said: “He confessed to me right after the trip, which was a surprise, but I eventually agreed to be with him.”
In spite of the distance between their workplaces, Jackie and Edmond made it a priority to spend time together whenever they could. They would often travel to see each other during weekends to make the most of every minute they spent together.
They both knew that the distance couldn’t last forever. Edmond longed to be closer to Jackie and they both dreamed of a future where they could build a life together.
Jackie said: “I never would have imagined that he would buy the ring and propose to me especially after I had mentioned that I had been thinking about getting married.”
Dreams soon became a reality. Edmond landed a job in Sheffield, and they decided it was time to take the next step in their relationship. On 18 February, the couple married in a beautiful ceremony in Sheffield Town Hall.
Their families and friends from Hong Kong and the UK came together to celebrate their special day. It wasn’t a big ceremony, but filled with love, laughter, and cultural traditions.
It wasn’t easy adjusting to a new city and a new life, but Jackie and Edmond were determined to make it work. They supported each other through the challenges of starting over in a new place and building a new home together.
Edmond struggled with his confidence when it came to speaking English with his colleagues at his new job but Jackie was by his side to support him.
He said: “I really appreciate my wife, she bought me books and practice exercises to work on, and even spent time teaching me directly.”
Edmond and Jackie said they feel incredibly blessed to have found each other in a foreign country and are excited to start their new life together as husband and wife in the UK.
Their love story may come as a reminder that sometimes, the most unexpected encounters can lead to the most beautiful outcomes.
