Stop Food Waste Day is the world’s single-largest day of action against our careless food habits.

The event, this year on 26th April, aims to “ignite change regarding the global food waste issue“, to encourage people to change what they throw away in the fight against poverty and climate change.

One third of all global food is wasted before it can even be consumed, contributing to climate change because of greenhouse gases that are emitted during the food process at transport and landfill.

Gawen Chillingworth, a student at the University of Sheffield, has changed his behaviour around what he wastes because of rises to the cost of living.

Sheffield Beanies is a local fruit and veg shop that has found ways to avoid anything going to waste.

Shareholder, Gwilym Lawrence, said: “It’s built into the way that we work.”
