King Charles III is due to be crowned on Saturday 6 May.

Celebrations will be happening around the country and millions will be watching the event.

But with many wanting to ditch the crowds and avoid the royal enthusiasts, for whatever reason, ShefNews suggests four ways to ditch the coronation this weekend.

Go raving in a ‘castle’

Skyline Festival runs this Sunday, providing techno beats throughout venues in Kelham Island including the iconic Peddler Warehouse. Local DJs are set to play from 3pm till late, supported by staging built to mimic a mediaeval castle.

If you’re not already feeling “fit for a king” then enjoy local food vendors and entertainers, or even have a sit down with a pint at The Factory Floor.

Event Co-founder Simon Tomlinson, 34, said: “Come down to Skyline this weekend to celebrate the bonus bank holiday in style, a celebration of the city’s finest house and tech DJs.”

Take a hike in the Peaks

If it’s escaping the crowds you’re after, then hop on a train, bike or car out to the Peak District where the moors might well be empty of the usual tourists.

After a long walk, hike or bike ride enjoy a relaxing drink or even a freshly baked pie in a local pub. This one’s perfect for kids and adults all around.

Have a pint in the ‘anti-coronation’ pub

Sheffield city centre pub the ‘Dog and Partridge’ is hosting an anti-coronation event this weekend. All they ask is you bring along tinned food and toiletries to pop in their charity collection box.

University student Georgina Cottrell, 20, said: “I’ll definitely be there, it sounds fun.

“I’m not a big fan of the royal family so I’ll be drowning my sorrows in the beer garden for sure.”

Watch the footie

Sheffield Wednesday’s playoff against Derby takes place this Sunday 7 May at home in Hillsborough. Get the tram down to the stadium and enjoy the atmosphere of thousands of Sheffielders revelling in Wednesday’s success in the league.

Wednesday fan Sophie Wilson, 20, said: “It’s a huge time for Wednesday at the moment, trying to get behind the team and give them full support ahead of the play-offs over the next couple of weeks.

“I don’t agree personally with the way the royal family works so I don’t have any interest in it.”
