Ex-Sheffield Wednesday player Tommy Spurr is hosting a charity match later this month to raise funds for the medical treatment of his four-year-old son, Rio.
Rio is battling a rare and aggressive stage four cancer – but the family received the news last Monday that the cancer had cleared on his lungs.
However, chances of relapse are high and treatment would be extremely expensive – and the family are making sure to prepare for every scenario.
The match is being dubbed as a “Steel City derby” with appearances on both teams from many Sheffield football legends, including managers Ron Atkinson and Neil Warnock.
The match will take place on the 12th May at the Olympic Legacy Park stadium.
