Doncaster Sheffield Airport has received £138 million fund to reopen and the owners consider a lease agreement.

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) approved the fund on 13 February allowing Doncaster council to negotiate and hopefully reopen the airport.

Mark Chadwick, set up a successful Facebook group campaigning for the airport to reopen. He said he has received a constant flood of following from thousands of people in agreement.

Mr Chadwick said: “After just 24 hours we had 1000 followers and after a week we reached 4000. The response was immediate.”

The reopening of the airport is predicted to create around 15,000 direct and indirect jobs.
